Used to have coffee with her and other ladies at the old Haynes's Cafe in the mornings around 7-9 AM around 1987. Got to where I was close to some of them. Being back in Wilson I miss them all. My prayers are with the family.

Many years ago when Patsy was about 4 or 5 and I was about 5 or 6 the Hendrix family were neighbors to my family on nearby farms about 12 miles south of Wilson. Patsy and I were playmates during that time, as were my two older sisters and her two older brothers. On one occasion my mother and I were visiting Mrs. Hendrix and Patsy at their home. Patsy and I wandered off to a little dry creek nearby and got involved in playing with what we called doodle bugs--little bugs that burrow themselves in the sand and flick grains of sand up in such a way as to create an inverted cone. When an ant or other small insect wandered into that cone the doodle bug would flick up more grains of sand to cause the ant to slide to the bottom, at which point the doodle bug would latch on and drag the ant under, to his demise. Patsy and I were involved in this activity for quite some time, not knowing that our mothers were frantically looking for us, and concerned about the possibility that we had gone to a pond that was a short distance away (or tank as we called it then).

Too soon the Hendrix family moved away and I never saw my little playmate again. But, after all these years, I've not forgotten her. To all those who loved her I send my condolences.
